Page 27 of Evan-Moor on State borders. Megan had to complete questions regarding states North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Iowa and their borders with questions like which of the states share a border with four other states.
Megan studied the reflection of light. Using a flash light and a mirror, she was able to have her light shine on the mirror behind her, on the ceiling, on her shirt, have the light bounce off two mirrors at the same time. Given an upside down word, she used the mirror to write what it's word is. Then she wrote her name down normally and record what the mirror changed it to.
Megan now has a more intensive morning routine, which involves doing coins for the date. She also has to tell me the time of the day and draw it on a clock , highlights the day, writes the number of the current date, the previous date and the date after it, and draws in the temperature. Then she has to take the number of days in school and record it in terms of hundreds, tens and ones, and then say how much that is in terms of dollars and cents.
She still writes the date, day of the week, spells out the date in letters, and writes a sentence or two about her day in her notebook.
Megan had to write 5's out to 100. She got to 50 and I let her take a break.she had to file in the missing number to make the math equation correct. Then she had to guess what animal Fred was trying to draw.
Megan did 2 pages of math u see before the court house this a.m. She did pages 247 and 250.
Today we drove with Trista to the Rosenberg train museum . We learned about the history of trains in Texas. We had a really good time. To keep the kids from wandering, they had them do a seek and find after watching a movie on railroad safety. After this, the tour guide showed us the parts of the tracks that the train runs on. Then they were able to go see a huge train model set up with bridges and tunnels. The person running the tour we were on was really good with kids, and asked them questions and to recall information. Then they had a craft for them to do, a headband, which Trista turned into a bookmark. Every time the whistle or a horn blow saying a train was coming, Andrew and Lucas, no matter what we were doing, got up and ran out the doors to watch the train. Georgia and Megan (6 & 5) respectfully, followed them. Then another fun point was the ability to collect pecans. The tour guide even gave us bags to collect them in.
Neat fact, they needed to get across the rivers of texas but it was hazardous because the waters were to low for boats. A higher track for trains was later developed for this purpose. Secondly, we learned that the idea for current traffic lights came from the multicolored train lights.
Reading sentences with the word has and point to the picture that refers to what she just read. On the next page, she to write down the word goes to finish the sentences.
What number plus a given number = the total number given is one of the types being given. Movers simple word problems are also being given. She also had to count a set of objects by two, add two single digest numbers, and add tens and hundreds having no units. This was pages 248,249, and 251 of math-u-see's primer.
Megan, me , Trista and her boys and another family spent a day at the Rosenberg Train Museum. We learned about the history of railroad in Texas, specifically the Sugarland Railroad. We learned a lot about Texas history. Between the Civil War and the Discovery of Oil, the Texas Railroads were the biggest ecoonomic force. We learned about other neat facts too, like who was the hobo and that the hobo had their own sign language. Also that our street lights came from the earlier lights used by the railroads.

Okay so one of my coop members showed me this book. It's a story book about a kid math genius. It's basically a math storybook. Megan looks forward to them. We have done 2.5 chapters. What we like about them is the storyline. What I like about them is it is not just math. It has days of the weeks, months, art, time, etc wrapped into one story. It's neat.
Today I tried explaining MLK and segregation. Well I talked to her about this. I explained to her that black people could not sit on the same part of the bus or eat in the same restaurants. I told her this was called segregation . She then said, so they go to the restaurants and eat and then go back to the fields. I have to end this confusion tomorrow. Then we did a book from enchanted-learning on Martin Luther Kin and answered the questions.
Today , we followed the shadow of our pear tree during various parts of the day. This was neat. Megan was not sure in the beginning, but then she stated to understand and took over. I will upload a photo.
We read a cute book called what did they find. It is part of a picture perfect science book of lessons. We only realized later in the story, that the amazing thingamabob they saw was their reflection. So she took a mirror and looked at her reflection. Then she walked around the house to find things her image was reflected in. Then, I helped her come to a conclusion that its smooth and shiny items that reflect her image. We have things to finish with this lab.
What is light? What are some properties of light.
Megan looked at light through a straw bent and unbent. She learned light travels a straight line. Later she learns how this can be changed.
She also tried to shine light on a mirror to observe angle of incidence=angle of reflection.
Megan reads to me daily and has been observed to pick up a book and try to read it herself or pick words or a sentence out of a book and read if if she sees or thinks she can .
Short E and short O sound
Given a word, Megan has to pick a picture it describes and then rewrite this word.
Megan has to read a row of words and then "X" the word that matches the first word.
Given a map of places and a ruler , determine distances between Maya's house and various places.

Words with U =. Fill a U into the Blane and draw a line to the picture of the word you made.
Middle sounds=. Look at picture in the box box and color the pictures to the right that have the same middle sound.
Everyday Megan, in a journal, writes the date, the day of the week, the high and low temperatures when we remember. later, I will add writing out the ordinal number for the week. I also have her write out the number of date in letters for the lower days of the month.. Here is an example of how Megan uses coins to write the date.
Using squares to seperate two animals, Megan has to count the squares to determine distance. Page 22 of book.
Given a Mao, Megan has to choose the map symbol which answers the question.
Pg 20
Megan picked the letters to build the word for the picture shown. Megan wrote a sentence with the words given .
There are sentences and Megan has to fill in " either " girl is or boy is" according to the pictures.
Megan is given locks with four branches. There is a word at the heart of the lock. She has to pick the branch that has the matching word, and write the letter key down on a line below according to the number lock. It spelled, when she was done, good job.
She has been working on this every other day.
This week we started the book Lentil. The book is set in an older time, in a small town in Alto, Ohio. We first discussed where Ohiobwas and how to spell it. We then discussed , using compass rose directions how you would get there.
Then, we did social studies and discussed the United States flag again and it's symbolic importance. We discussed the number of stripes and stars and why people think highly of it.
The, we talk about war memorials. We discussed the ones that we has seen. Megan does not remember that many, but does remember seeing a memorial for Devaca, a Spanish explorer.
We alsodiscussed how to tell this book was set in an the past, with a bathtub with feet and an old time cash register for example.
Science and lentil -accoustic. We discussed how te sound of the harmonica played in a bathroom with ceramic or solid fixtures would sound better than in a room with carpet or couches with upholstorery on them.
Finally last night, I introduced charcoal as the drawing medium and gave Megan her set of charcoal pencils. She practiced drawing and adding shadig. And then drew a bird.

She has to read the sentence and draw a line to the appropriate picture. Then she has to circle the word "it" square the word "is", dran one line under "an" and two lines under the word " the" and triangle the letter "a's".
These days in Math-u-see Megan is learning to add the tens place with no ones, like 70 + 10.at first she built them and added them using the blocks. We used the blocks to make an add and an equal sign. She has also been practicing counting by twos and today she started counting by 10s.
Page 64. She looks at a picture and writes the word .
Pages 62-63. On page 62, Megan took the words they gave her and wrote complete sentences. On page 63, she reads two sentences and picks the sentence that matches the picture provided. She does this for seven sets of sentence pairs.
We did this science lab which can touch several concepts. Basically, we took both glass jars and finally in the bottom of a two -liter bottle, with just a little of the plastic tops taken off. To the jars, we put about 1.5 cups water and mixed in 3.5. TBLS salt. We stirred this up and added food coloring and mixed it up. Next , we gently placed the potato in. If it floated we were good to go. Then we added 1.5cups of fresh water very , very slowly. If you did it right, you could see the layer between the fresh and salt water (colored) with the potato fish floating in the middle.
I am guessing due to the low volume , it was not as dramatic as the two liter bottle. To this one, the method is the same, but you put in 3 cups both fresh and salt water and 10+ large scoops of salt. The separation was very clear. I will upload photos shortly.
