Salt water fish

We did this science lab which can touch several concepts.  Basically, we took  both glass jars and finally in  the bottom of a two -liter bottle, with just a little of the  plastic tops taken off. To the jars, we put about 1.5 cups water and mixed in 3.5. TBLS salt.  We stirred this up and added food coloring and mixed it up. Next , we gently placed the potato in.  If it floated we were good to go.  Then we added 1.5cups of fresh water very , very slowly.  If you did it right, you could see the layer between the fresh and salt water (colored) with the potato fish floating in the middle.

I am guessing due to the low volume , it was not as dramatic as the two liter bottle. To this one, the method is the same, but you put in 3 cups both fresh and salt water and 10+ large scoops of salt.  The separation was very clear. I will upload photos shortly.
