Little house in the big woods

We are reading this book by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  While we read it, we discuss the important vocabulary and discuss what they are doing.  Thinks discussed we're the churning of butter, what is buthering and the parts of the pig, venison and how they smoked it to make it last, bears, panthers, minx, muskrats.  When reading this , one gains a sense of the life of a pioneer.

As we read this, we mop,eye a pocket of time, shown below.  Basically the chapters are there and there are event cards, and as Megan hears the event, she puts the card into the pocket. I think it helps with retention.
