On October 19th, 2002 Julie and Winston decided to visit some of the popular natural sights in Northern Georgia, in hopes of seeing some fall foilage. Though most of the leaves still hadn't changed we did see some beautiful vistas. Our first stop was Brasstown Bald, the highest point in the State of Georgia. Here there is a 0.5 mile paved path to the top where there is an Observation Deck. (It's short but steep!) From the observation deck we had quite a view. Be sure to see the page with the Panoramic shots taken from up there. Next we went to Amicalola Falls State Park, home of to the highest falls east of the Mississippi River. Here we hiked three trails in a loop for a total of approximately 3 miles. We started with the Creek Trail which brought us to the Reflection Pool and the Base of Falls Trail this brought us to the Lower Observation Platform and 600 stairs to reach the top of the Falls. From the top of the falls we hiked the East Ridge Spring Trail back to the visitor center. The East Ridge Spring Trail is also part of the Appalachian Approach Trail. If you enjoyed these photos, and you've seen the panoramic shots, you'll enjoy our pictures from the Great Smoky Mountains.
