Day 16: Grosse Tete, LA to Friendswood, TX
Tuesday Nov. 04, 2008
View Larger MapIn the morning we work up and breakfast was pre-staged in the kitchenette in the cottage. THe cottage was quite fun, with lots of hurriane lanterns that we lit for ambiance, and there was a large classic bathroom. Waking up before dawn, the morning fog combined with the rising sun over the swan pond was very ethereal and quite relaxing. The pond was decorated with quite a few figurines which looked better silhouetted in the early morning light. There were also flocks of noisy birds resting the tall trees above, until the crack of a rifle. Later in the morning, a crop duster flew around and circled overhead, and we watched the nearby farm animals (horses and cows). We checked out around 10:30 am, and made our way west to Texas. Around 12:30 we reached the border and had lunch at a Flying J travel stop. We were home by 4:30 pm, and 280 miles driven that day. A total of 3824 miles for the whole trip.
