Today we drove with Trista to the Rosenberg train museum . We learned about the history of trains in Texas. We had a really good time. To keep the kids from wandering, they had them do a seek and find after watching a movie on railroad safety. After this, the tour guide showed us the parts of the tracks that the train runs on. Then they were able to go see a huge train model set up with bridges and tunnels. The person running the tour we were on was really good with kids, and asked them questions and to recall information. Then they had a craft for them to do, a headband, which Trista turned into a bookmark. Every time the whistle or a horn blow saying a train was coming, Andrew and Lucas, no matter what we were doing, got up and ran out the doors to watch the train. Georgia and Megan (6 & 5) respectfully, followed them. Then another fun point was the ability to collect pecans. The tour guide even gave us bags to collect them in.
Neat fact, they needed to get across the rivers of texas but it was hazardous because the waters were to low for boats. A higher track for trains was later developed for this purpose. Secondly, we learned that the idea for current traffic lights came from the multicolored train lights.
