Color picture if it begins wit the letter.
Had to the alphabetic order and fill in the missing letters. I learned yesterday and today, I need to have Megan practice capital letters, D, K , R , although today she wrote a really nice capital R. Also Megan needs to practice alphabetical order.
Did short "o" sound exercises. explode the code book 1 , pages 79-81.
Did a couple pages doing addition and place value.
Read "Me on a map" and discussed the layering of where Megan lives, from home to country to earth and our place in space. She drew the Texas shape and watched a small clip on how Texas got its shape.
This is a card game I bought that mimics the war game played with regular playing cards. It has both adding and subtraction problems.
Players have cards with math problems on them and each player turns over a card and solves the problem. The player with the largest answer wins and keeps both player's cards.
If a tie, the player turn over more cards and then flip over last. Highest answers gets both players cards.
I laminated the Read, build write boards for Runaway Bunny and read Megan the book and then we built common words, rock, crocus, garden, bird. There were other words but Megan got tired.
Match number of unit blocks on left to the same quantity on the right side.
Math-u-see believes in having the child count from 0-9,10-19, 20-29,etc as this makes more sense. Anyway, given units (ones ) bars count them and write the corresponding number from one-10.
Page 112-119 place value hundreds-tens-units ( ones) . Either count each type,record them and say the number, or color in a specified number of each and say the number.
Practice news Spanish colors and food names. Also studied greetings like como Esta.
Megan had to , with help, reads a sentence and choose the best word to replace a missing word in the sentence (pg. 53 complete phonics). Reading sentences and following directions such as go over the mat, she had to help the tot in a maze find his cat (pg. 54).
Given the word form of a number,, write the number. Pg. 85 book of numbers and counting.
She had to draw a line between a number in word form to its actual number.
Book of numbers and counting . She had toput < or> when comparing too numbers. Next given a condition like 3< 0-10 she had to circle the numbers that made the statement true( pages 196-197),
Given a sentence asking what words in the picture is the right one, she had to circle the right word and write it (pg. 52).
Megan helped read sentences and then selected the word to finish the sentence associated with a picture (pg. 51)
Connected the dots for numbers 1-12 and 1-20, and did an ordered number maze in the complete numbers in the numbers and counting for 1-20,
P. 194 and started page 195. After reading a math picture book called Just enough carrots, which discusses more, fewer, and the same as, she did a page where she circled the numbers according to where they were greater , lesser, or equal to some number. Page 195 makes her think as higher numbers,ones- four ties are compared for smallest and largest number.
Adding numbers up to 9 and 10, that is adding numbers so that the sum goes up to 9 or 10. I am teaching her mental strategies to do these problems, like doubles and counting-up.
Did adding up to 7 and 8. Pages 4 and 5 out of an addition workshop. Tomorrow we will do some of this with natural items.
Short e work. Given some words, she has to pick the word that matches a picture and write the word next to it. Then in a square she is given three words and a picture and has to select the word that matches the picture.
Wrote month, date and day of week.
In complete math book. She circled groups of ten marbles ( only one group because focusing on tens) and then counted the remainder and placed them on a tens and units chart then wrote and said the number
formed.
Page 112-113 . Filled in the missing numbers up to 12 on a number line. This was out of complete book of numbers and counting. She also did page 113,where she colored the written word and number 13 and colored 13 flowers.
We went over Spanish for a little bit, learning or practicing
color names. First she colored fruit with the Spanish name written on it and practiced saying the color as she did it.then she started a rainbow where the lines of the rainbow are written in Spanish color names.
I asked Megan things like one times one, 4 times 4 or called addition doubles to give her practice. she answered them and I discussed techniques to solve them quicker.
She wrote the word described in a picture and circled words having short E sound.
She wrote the numbers 1-20 and did a few simple addition problems. Pages 10 and the top part of 23. I am going tofeet a number line to help visualize adding/subtracting. Also I am looking into teaching her mental math as she goes, like 6+5 seems hard, but it is just 5+5+1, and she knows 5+5 is 10. She did this and other similiar problems today.
Megan did a page on sound pattern "in"(page 43) and sound pattern "ot" (page 45) . For the "in" words she had to write the word that matches the picture. She also wrote a sentence on how she can help the environment.
We read this book and drew a large tree showing the many uses/values of trees. We added the books uses and some of our own.
Megan is learning place values using ones place as units and tens place as tens. She builds the number using blocks or colors in blocks for a specific tens digit number, like 23.
Recognizing words that go with pictures, pages 54 volume 1.
Worked on spelling using short value i, u, and o. Page 53 and 55 volume 1. Practiced reading sentences.
Did two pages in the complete book of phonics. Worked on short vowel e and o.
We did some math with acorns-how many ways can we get nine. She also did two pages of addition workshops.
Megan writes daily the date , the month, the word form of the day of the week to learn ordinal numbers. She also writes a sentence and does a math problem.
Did a page today for me, today being Sunday.
Studied the parts of the water cycle and made a cute, pictorial water-cycle place mat. We are not done with this topic.
Before, after, between for numbers one-thru-10. She had to fill in the missing number.
Started learning basics, using blocks and their method, about place value. It's a little slow at first, as is to be expected.
